Zoey is a Golden Retriever who I took care of for a couple of years.
The poor girl had been through a lot just before I came into her life. One of her owners had recently passed. And a couple of weeks later her pack mate passed. Zoey and her dad were both grieving and trying to figure out their life.
I didn’t walk Zoey. I came in the morning and we went out back, played and enjoyed the huge yard. She loved to chase balls, but wasn’t the greatest at bringing them back. When we went back in the house it was treat time and usually snuggles on the couch.
One hot August day we came in and I took my hat off. I laid it on the couch and when Zoey saw it there, she grabbed it and began zoomies around the house, shaking the hat like it was the best new toy in the world. I tried to get her to come to me, wasn’t happening. I got up and that’s all it took.
The chase game was on.
She ran into the bedroom and jumped on the bed. I would go to one side, she’d go to the other. Back and forth we went. Me trying to not laugh, and failing, her with a priceless look on her eyes. She knew what she was doing.

Finally the game got old and Zoey gave in. She laid down at the end of the bed and let me have my hat back.
By now my eyes were watering from laughing.
She didn’t get her snuggle time that day. And I don’t think she cared one bit.
Sadly Zoey’s dad passed and she moved away to live with his niece. The last I heard Zoey was happy and doing very well in her new home.
